Chubut is moving toward a fair and inclusive energy transition for its productive development.
Esquel, August 1, 2025 – Within the framework of the RedER Chubut project: Fair and Inclusive Energy Transition for Family Farming, the workshop "Fair and Inclusive Energy Transition for the Productive Development of Chubut" was held. This workshop brings together key stakeholders from the region to collectively build an energy agenda aimed at the province's sustainable development.
The RedER Chubut project is an initiative funded by the European Union. The 500RPM Foundation, together with the Ibero-American Union of Municipalists (UIM) and the Patagonia Natural Foundation (FPN), is promoting its implementation in the region with the support of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), the Government of the Province of Chubut, the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), and various partner organizations.
On July 31 and August 1, the seminar offered a space for multisectoral dialogue with the aim of advancing the co-construction of an Energy Transition Agenda for the Productive Development of Chubut, through exchanges between local governments, institutions, producers, academia, and the community.
At the opening of the event, the Minister of Production of the Province of Chubut, Laura Mirantes, highlighted the key role of renewable energy, innovation, technology, and the training of local stakeholders as fundamental pillars for the project's success. For her part, Ilse Cougé, Head of European Union Cooperation in Argentina, praised the territorial coordination work being carried out through the project and underscored the commitment of the 500RPM Foundation and the UIM to sustainability and inclusion in rural areas.
During the first day, the project's partner organizations, the 500RPM Foundation, the UIM, and the Patagonia Natural Foundation, shared progress, lessons learned, and challenges. The UIM, responsible for the governance component, presented the first steps in the participatory development of a Just and Inclusive Energy Transition Agenda, developed in conjunction with the research team at the National Technological University – San Rafael Regional Faculty (UTN SR).
Claudia Martínez, Secretary for Women of the Province of Córdoba and Vice President of the UIM Ibergender Network, provided insight into the need for energy policies to have a gender and territorial focus, specifically benefiting men and women in the province.
The UTN SR team, represented by Sergio Pérez Rozzi and Mijal Saz, coordinated a participatory workshop where the current energy assessment was validated and priority actions for the development of the Agenda were identified. On the second day, these proposals will be collectively validated with the aim of consolidating a path toward a more just, inclusive, and resilient energy model in Chubut.
