The 500RPM Wind Turbine Pole in Cholila is getting bigger!
In an R&D project, the construction of a new size of Piggot wind turbine was completed. With a rotor of 4.2 meters, it is a 2.5 kW model, which can be installed for both rural consumption (off grid) or urban consumption (on grid). This particular one will soon be installed in a wind-solar micro grid in San Carlos de Bariloche.
The Piggot is the most widely used self-built wind turbine in the world. One of its characteristics is that it can be sized in different ways, generating various responses to access to energy.
Its central characteristic - self-construction - indicates that manufacturing and maintenance can be carried out by local technicians. The photo shows the cedar blades laminated and fiber-coated by local 500RPM technicians Nahuel Ancina and Juan Luis Flores
